Insights from Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia: A Conversation on India’s Economic Journey.

Last week, Vikas Pahwa – International Educator at Shiv Nadar School & host of the LYIS Podcast sat down with Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia for an insightful conversation. Vikas had the great honour of discussing with Dr. Ahluwalia, (one of India’s most distinguished economists and policymakers), his latest book ‘Backstage: The Story Behind India’s High Growth Years.’ A discussion that was “incredibly insightful and provided a deep understanding of India’s economic journey, past, present and future”, noted Vikas.

Dr. Ahluwalia’s book is a treasure trove of information about India’s economic and political landscape, covering India’s high growth years, which includes present and future challenges. It provides an in-depth analysis of the policies and reforms that were implemented during this period, which have helped India to become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. During the conversation, he shared his thoughts on the current state of the Indian economy, the impact of globalisation, and the future of India’s economic growth. He also discussed the challenges facing the country, including: rising inequality, corruption, and environmental degradation.

“Dr. Ahluwalia’s extensive experience in policy making was clearly evident in our discussion” Vikas said. He provided detailed insights and analysis on a range of topics, including India’s economic liberalisation, its relationship with the IMF and the World Bank, and the role of the private sector in driving growth.

Vikas mentioned that what struck him the most was Dr. Ahluwalia’s “deep commitment to public service and his passion for improving the lives of ordinary Indians”. He also spoke about his experience of working with four different Prime Ministers and his role in shaping India’s economic policies. His dedication to serving his country and making a positive impact was truly inspiring.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to economic policy and public service, Dr. Ahluwalia was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2011.

Vikas’ conversation with Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia was a fascinating and enlightening experience. His book and insights provide a deep understanding of India’s economic journey, and his commitment to public service serves as an inspiration to us all.

I am delighted to share with our followers that Vikas was also able to present Dr Ahluwalia with his very own copy of ‘Leading Your International School’. We are sure he will enjoy it!
